Cozy Retreats for Your Next Weekend Away

Sometimes you just need to get away.

And maybe you’re looking for a place you can get to in 2-3 hours from home…or at least not have to travel outside the country. I’ve started getting a lot of requests for these kinds of trips lately which inspired me to share some of our favorite ideas for destinations and relaxing accommodations that are ideal for a long (or short) weekend trip (and with a lot of nature included)..

Our recommendations are best for a lowkey trip with your significant other, best friends, or even a solo escape (translation: this is a No Kids weekend trip!)

East Coast

Ideal places to escape for a private country retreat in the northeast and New England whether you’re seeking a summertime getaway or a trip to see the fall colors at their peak. You’ll find colonial style lodging, log cabins, and cottages - but with luxurious touches throughout.

Miraval Berkshires is an all-inclusive New England spa resort near Lenox, Massachusetts. (There are also Miraval spa resorts in Austin, TX and Tucson, AZ, each with its own unique style and flavor.) You’ll find this location is most popular in the summer and fall and has a cozy, New England cottage style with meditation, yoga, cooking classes, wellness experiences, creative expression classes, and much more.

Travel up to Maine and  you’ll find beautiful cottage-style hotels and seaside resorts with epic views of the Atlantic. You’ll find Cliff House perched on the cliffs overlooking the water or White Barn Inn centrally located in Kennebunkport, as well as Hidden Pond in a bit more secluded location outside Kennebunkport.

If you’re really looking for a country retreat, why not visit Vermont’s Twin Farms inclusive resort. It’s nestled among the trees and features farm-to-table dining, year-round activities including canoeing and horseback riding, and distinctive accommodations (choose from treehouses, cottages or the main lodge).

Southeast

When traveling to the Southeast, you’ll have the option of retreating somewhere along the coast or a more inland, farmhouse vibe. There are some truly beautiful places to visit in the Southeast so depending on where you’re located, you can find an incredible getaway in just a few hours driving distance.

Heading to Charleston? Why not stay out on the Kiawah River at The Dunlin, a brand-new Auberge resort opening this summer on John’s Island. You’ll be a short drive away from everything happening in Charleston, but have the luxury of peaceful coastal living during your stay here. There are daily wellness programs and a spa to keep you extra relaxed.

Twenty minutes outside of Nashville, find yourself at peace at Southall Inn & Farm, a working farm with luxurious suites and cottages. Spend time at the pool, take, or spa for relaxation or take part in one of the unique experiences offered at the resort (archery and ax throwing OR a southern honey tasting?)

West Coast & Southwest

If you’re seeking rest and relaxation in the desert, might we suggest Scottsdale and Sedona? We work with so many preferred partners located here and can put together a great weekend getaway with hiking, golf, or some much deserved spa time. In Sedona, opt for a few nights at Enchantment Resort, surrounded by the red rocks with plenty to do on and off property. Adventure activities, including mountain biking and hiking, are available as is excellent cuisine. And you’ll have exclusive access to Mii Amo, a top-rated destination spa and Enchantment’s sister property.

We’ve actually just booked clients for an anniversary weekend at the Goldener Hirsch in Park City this coming September. Early Fall is a lovely time to head out to the mountains - you can hike, fish, bike, or enjoy the hotel’s rooftop pool (the only one in town). Another Auberge Hotel we love in Utah is The Lodge at Blue Sky.

And if you’re feeling like getting to California, why not check out the beautiful Belmond El Encanto in Santa Barbara or The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern in Los Olivos - a great option for a wine trip in the Santa Ynez Valley where you can find unique, curated experiences just for guests.

We can’t wait to help you find the perfect destination (and hotel) for your next weekend trip. Let us take on the planning so you are free to enjoy your time away.
