How to Earn More Miles with Your Travel Advisor
In late 2023, Delta made a lot of noise by changing up their Medallion status program, angering a lot of frequent Delta fliers and even spurring a few competitor airlines to offer status transfer to their loyalty programs.
If you are a Delta loyalist like me, it was a crazy time.
Delta later adjusted the changes for Medallion Status in 2024, making it slightly easier to attain the status tiers than the original changes had outlined. But it’s still a big shift from how the program worked in 2023 and before.

Airline status is a coveted thing for many travelers -
lounge access, perks, upgrades, and more are just a few of the reasons travelers want to maintain their status. And when the programs change suddenly and status could be lost, it can be unsettling. I may be making this more dramatic than it is, but if you’ve ever had top tier status and then had it drop down or go away entirely, you’ll know what I mean!
So that’s why our partners like Delta Vacations and American Airlines Vacations can be pretty important. When you travel with Delta Vacations, you can earn even more Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs are the new currency for attaining Delta status) when you book through them. You’ll also have additional Medallion savings on your bookings and there can be added savings for flights booked through DV rather than as stand-alone flights.
If you’re interested in earning even more MQDs when you travel OR if you want to redeem miles for your entire vacation package, let’s work together on your next trip!
American Airlines offers 1x or 5x AA miles for your travel (based on the cost of your travel package). This is in addition to the trip mileage you receive by flying on American. If you have Gold status or above, you’ll receive 5x the value of the cost of the trip package. So if you spend $4,000 on your trip, you’ll receive 20,000 bonus miles plus the miles earned on the trip.
If you live in a hub for Delta or American and have loyalty with one of these airlines, let us know when we start working together. We have a lot of preferred partners to work with, but sometimes Delta Vacations or American Airlines Vacations can be the right fit for the right client and trip. Airfare prices remain high this year but when we work with one of these partners, we can often get discounted airfare as part of an overall vacation package. While we don't always book flights for our clients, we do have the option of looking at these air + hotel bundles for destinations around the world that can help you save a little on your overall trip cost without sacrificing the quality of your trip.
Both American Airlines Vacations and Delta Vacations offer high quality hotel inventory (4* and above) and you don’t have to book your entire trip through these partners. Instead, book your flights and one hotel to secure additional discounting on your total trip cost and then you can select additional hotels for your trip that may or may not be part of the programs. There’s a lot of flexibility and benefits to working with them.
Even better, it’s easy for travel advisors to work with these partners - they are both preferred to my host agency - and when it’s easy for us, your trip planning gets even easier for you! Let’s start working on your next getaway.
