Travel Insurance Isn’t Sexy - Until You Need It
Let’s be honest: travel insurance does not spark joy.
It doesn’t come with ocean views, Michelin stars, or thread-count bragging rights. And yet, it might be the most important part of your trip.
Because here’s the truth seasoned travelers know: nothing ruins a luxury experience faster than an unexpected problem with no backup plan.
Travel insurance isn’t about expecting disaster. It’s about protecting your time, your health, and the investment you’ve made in a carefully planned escape. Flights get canceled. Weather happens. Luggage wanders off. And sometimes, bodies decide to misbehave at the worst possible moment—often far from home.
One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is, “My credit card covers that.”
Sometimes… sort of… with caveats the size of a novella. Another favorite is, “I’m healthy, I’ll be fine.” Until you twist an ankle in Italy or need medical care in Southeast Asia and realize your U.S. health insurance has politely declined the invitation.
Good travel insurance isn’t about panic—it’s about freedom. It allows you to travel fully present, knowing that if something does go wrong, you’re not navigating it alone from an airport floor at midnight.
This is especially true for international travel, milestone trips, cruises, and complex itineraries. When multiple moving parts are involved, insurance isn’t optional—it’s strategic.
As a travel advisor, part of my job is helping clients choose coverage that actually matches their trip. Not too much. Not too little. And—importantly—coverage that works when you need it, not just in theory.
Because while travel insurance may never be the most exciting line item in your itinerary, it’s often the one you’re most grateful for later.
Unsexy? Yes.
Essential? Absolutely.
