I recently attended a dinner event in Atlanta with The Calliope Collective, a company that represents unique hotels around the world. I learned about so many of these beautiful hotels in places like Italy, Ireland, Kyoto, and Costa Rica, but what really blew my mind was the hotel selection in the US. 

We know that our clients sometimes like to travel close to home and are looking for a long weekend getaway on a short flight. Nemacolin is located about 90 minutes drive from Pittsburgh and this place is unbelievable! It has everything you can imagine you might need for your vacation (and more). Sitting on more than 2,200 acres you will find 120+ activities for all ages right on site including archery, whitewater rafting, dog sledding, art classes, wine tastings, paintball, and more. You never have to leave the property with all of its dining options, six pools, two golf courses, and things to do on site. With a wide range of accommodations including hotel rooms and suites, private homes, and townhomes, this is perfect for multi-generational family trips, golfers, spa & wellness seekers, or a romantic getaway. And it’s perfect year-round whether you want to enjoy the sunshine at the pool or check out the holiday offerings in winter.

For those in the Southeast, you may be familiar with Sea Island, a expansive resort off the coast of Georgia. Sea Island is located about 90 minutes from Savannah and 75 minutes from Jacksonville; it’s a gated resort where you will find five miles of private beach, a Forbes Five-Star spa, three championship golf courses, and more. Perfect for nature lovers, multi-generational family trips, and golfers. There are different accommodations including the Cloister at Sea Island and the Lodge at Sea Island, as well as the Cottages at Sea Island and Ocean Residences - so you can find the right type of room for your trip. With cottages on site, this is a great option for larger families and groups traveling together.

It’s a great option for a summer or early fall vacation, or event a late Spring trip out to the coast! 

If wine tasting is your thing, but you don’t want to leave the East Coast, travel to Virginia’s wine country and stay at the impressive Keswick Hall, located just outside of Charlottesville. Keswick Hall is close to ⅔ of the wineries in region which is an up and coming destination for wine lovers in the US. While the hotel caters to families as well, my favorite part is the view from the Adults Only infinity pool. Perhaps a wine weekend trip is in store for 2025?

Looking for a luxe boutique stay for a city trip? 

When in Nashville, opt for the historic Hermitage Hotel located in the heart of Nashville. The hotel originally opened in 1910 and recently underwent major renovations throughout the property. You will find two fantastic restaurants on site and an elegant lobby bar where you can have cocktails before heading out to Broadway. 

Fun fact: The hotel’s branding is yellow as a nod to the hotel’s role in the suffragette movement in the early 20th century. The 19th amendment was signed not far from the hotel at the Tennessee State Capitol! 

Local Flavors

If you’re looking for a trip to a smaller city, but still want outstanding service, excellent dining, and all of the luxury appointments, there’s a few options in the Collective for you.

One of the most gorgeous iis The Laurel Hotel & Spa in Auburn, Alabama. This is a boutique hotel located right next to the Auburn University campus and is actually used as a teaching hotel for the Hospitality Management school. While it’s obviously a great location for parents, alumni, and sports fans, it can offer a nice weekend getaway for those in the Southeast looking for something a bit more relaxed (outside of football season!). There are only 26 rooms and suites so it’s truly boutique and intimate. There’s a stunning rooftop pool and bar with views over the campus (and yoga classes happen up there during the day). You can also rent e-bikes or plan a picnic experience at the hotel. 

Travel 90 minutes outside of NYC to Hampton Bays for a luxurious stay at Canoe Place Inn & Cottages, the site of America’s oldest inn. The Inn is open year-round and offers seasonal activities no matter when you stay. There’s also live music and events year round, nature hikes, a relaxing spa, and onsite restaurants and bars so you won’t have to travel far. This is another option that is perfect for a long-weekend trip out of the city any time of year.
