Add Some Adventure to Your Next Couples Trip

When you think about a romantic getaway, what comes to mind?

Intimate beach resort in the Caribbean?

Long weekend in Paris?

A luxe overwater bungalow in the Maldives?

While these are all amazing trip ideas (and certainly romantic), I’d like to share some alternative ideas for the couple that wants to get away together, but also have some adventure along the way! As part of the Virtuoso Adventure Community, I have access to some of the premier Adventure travel companies around the world that can help make these trips happen for my clients.

Go Glamping

The idea of camping sounds romantic, right? Sleeping under the stars, snuggling up with your significant other…but there’s a lot about camping that is certainly not romantic. Instead, try glamping.

Under Canvas has locations around many of the major US national parks so you can explore the parks while enjoying an upgraded camping vibe. The luxurious outdoor accommodations include king size beds, private bathrooms with organic bath products, a private deck, and some tents include night-sky viewing windows above the bed. There’s upscale onsite dining, activities such as yoga and kayaking, nightly fire pits with smores - this is the way camping should be! We can work with our partners to add unique park experiences during your stay.

For something even more luxurious, stay at Sedona’s Enchantment Resort, a 70 acre resort at the base of the canyon. The resort is bike-in, bike-out and you’ll have access to more than 400 miles of mountain biking and hiking trails. And all guests have access to the therapeutic spa onsite, in addition to many activities ranging from culinary demonstrations to pickleball to guided meditations. Have time to connect with your loved one in a pottery class or while stargazing. This is the ideal trip for a couple that wants to disconnect from the world and reconnect with each other.

Chasing the Northern Lights

If you think stargazing is romantic, why not level up and chase the Northern Lights with your sweetie? 2024 is predicted to have the most vivid Northern Lights in a while due to the occurrence of a solar maximum, marking a period of increased solar activity and storms. If you’ve been wanting to chase the Lights, this might be the best year to do it!

Stay in a glass igloo style accommodation where you’ll have a view of the night sky from your comfortable (and warm) bed. Go on snowshoe excursions during the day and hangout with reindeer, before getting cozy in your igloo at night.

Whether you opt for Alaska, Norway, Finland, or Iceland, you’re likely to witness some of the most stunning night skies with your loved one, creating a memory that you both won’t soon forget.

If you’re not so into staying on land for Lights viewing, there are expedition cruises offered by Silversea or Aurora Expeditions that travel around the Arctic where you’ll have the opportunity to explore on land and view the lights from the sea.

Adventure in South America

Maybe it’s because I’m planning my honeymoon in Argentina, but there’s something that seems so romantic about witnessing awe-inspiring nature in the Southern Hemisphere. (We are not doing any of these things though if we had more time, we certainly would!)

There’s many incredible adventures to be found: trekking through Patagonia, exploring Chile’s Atacama Desert, or hiking to the top of Machu Picchu. Or perhaps opt for a trip to the Galapagos Islands.

There’s something special about taking epic hikes and seeing awesome landscapes together (imagine the sunrise and sunset potential!) and you’ll be able to stay in luxurious accommodations, elevating your overall couples experience. Stay in one of the unique Explora properties - in Atacama, Patagonia, Torres del Paine, or in Peru’s Sacred Valley - and have access to in-depth exploration with expert guides in some of the most remote parts of the world all while staying in world-class luxury lodges. Who doesn’t want to relax at the spa after a day hiking in Patagonia?

Through our industry network, there are so many ways for us to create a unique, intimate getaway for you and your significant other - even if you’re not so interested in adventure, but just want that beach getaway.

Let us know what your romantic getaway style is!
