Accessible Asia
If you’ve been reading my posts for awhile, you know I am a huge fan of Asia!
And while I am always encouraging potential travelers to go there, I understand that Asia is quite far away and feels like a ‘big trip’. But some parts of Asia aren’t quite as far away as you might think…and may be worth reconsidering for your next vacation! The biggest challenge I hear is about the flights - they are long and can often include multiple stops, further adding to the travel time. But
Direct flights from major US cities, such as New York and Los Angeles, have made it convenient to reach places once considered far away and complicated. Here are five diverse destinations—Korea, India, UAE, Singapore, and Taiwan—easily accessed by non-stop flights from the US. Working with a travel advisor makes it even easier to plan your Asia trip - we can provide guidance on time needed, destination, flights, and create custom itineraries that make the most of your time in the destination! We work with incredible partners that specialize in Asia and can help provide an itinerary that fits exactly what you are looking for!
Seoul
You can reach the dynamic and culturally rich nation of Korea in just under 14 hours from LA, and around an hour longer from NYC. Seoul, the capital, offers a captivating blend of history and cutting-edge technology, fashion, and dining (and K-POP). Explore the happening streets of Myeongdong district — indulging in its many options for shopping and street food (my very favorite part of Seoul) — and the trendy neighborhood of Hongdae, known for its art, music, and nightlife. Visit one of Seoul's five palaces (Gyeongbokgung is the most popular and quite impressive), see traditional Hanok houses nearby, and wander through Insadong.
Where to Stay: Conrad Seoul, Park Hyatt Seoul
UAE
A world of opulent wonders awaits in the United Arab Emirates. Hop on a direct flight from NYC and in around 12 hours, you'll arrive in Dubai, a city of awe-inspiring skyscrapers and lavish resorts. Enjoy desert safaris by 4x4, visit the iconic Burj Khalifa, or indulge in retail therapy at world-class shopping malls.
Where to Stay: One&Only Royal Mirage
Singapore
Singapore, now accessible non-stop from LAX (17 hours) and JFK (19 hours), has long shaken off its 'boringly safe' reputation, transforming into one of Asia's most compelling metropolises — perfectly manicured, innovative, and ultra-modern
Yes, it’s a long flight, but you can also travel around from Singapore to other nearby Asian destinations, making it a perfect starting point for your trip. Consider popping over to Malaysia, Thailand, or Indonesia - places harder to get to with a direct flight!
Where to Stay: Raffles Singapore
Taipei
This is a destination that is creeping up on my list of places to go next! With direct flights from LA and NYC, you can reach Taipei in 14 and 15 hours respectively. One of Asia's most dynamic architecture hubs, the city is dotted with landmark new projects like the showpiece Taipei Performing Arts Center and Songshan Cultural Park. There is an incredible food scene in Taipei as well - I was salivating reading a recent article in AFAR about rechao restaurants which sound noisy and delicious!
Where to Stay: Mandarin Oriental Taipei
