For Women Who Travel

In honor of Women’s History Month and as something I am particularly passionate about, today's focus is on women-only travel experiences.

There’s been a rise in interest for these types of travel experiences, particularly among women who are now starting to travel solo. As I mentioned in my article about group travel, groups can be ideal for solo travelers - especially if you have never traveled alone before. Rather than embarking on an adventure totally on your own, you can find camaraderie in a group and have the added benefit of the safety and security of an organized group trip.

As more and more seek out these types of experiences, there is a trend of our travel partners offering itineraries only for women.

Adventure & Exploration

Aurora Expeditions is introducing a special cruise itinerary to Antarctica designed just for women. Sail on their small-ship expedition vessel, the Sylvia Earle, which pays tribute to Dr. Sylvia Earle, an ambassador to conservation on the planet. In addition, the decks highlight six pioneering women in conservation and their incredible achievements and causes.

This new voyage is designed by women, led by women, for women. Expedition cruises and travelling to Antarctica specifically will open the door to new experiences, perhaps new challenges, and with the Aurora-style of travel, new friendships too.  Aurora also offers dedicated solo traveler cabins on their ships, with no single supplement, making this voyage an even more attractive option for solo female travelers looking for adventure!

Active Travel

Backroads is known for their active adventures and tours - primarily via walking, hiking, and biking tours around the world. But they also offer a special subset of their walking and hiking tours just for women. Backroads creates the same immersive experiences they do for all of their trips, exploring wild landscapes and ancient foothills, while in the company of all women. These trips are ideal for solo travelers, but also for a group of friends who want to have an active trip, but don’t want to plan all of the details! Whether you want to hike portions of the Camino de Santiago, the Norwegian Fjords, explore Patagonia, or visit California’s Joshua Tree National Park,  there is a tour for you.

Diving into Culture

If you’re looking for less active adventure and more low-key cultural exploration, another partner of ours, Insight Vacations, offers small group, Women-Only Tours that could be perfect for you. Their tours not only take you to incredible destinations, they focus on women doing amazing things in these destinations today or highlight the history of women and their impact on the local society and culture. For instance, meet the Quechua weavers in Peru’s Sacred Valley and learn about the history of their craft or explore the Valley of the Queens during the Splendours of Egypt tour. Each of their tours offers rooms for solo travelers and women traveling together, creating another opportunity for like-minded women to get to know each other during the trip.

 Solo Travel

If traveling in a group isn’t your thing, but you’re looking for the ideal solo trip, we would love to help you find the perfect destination that feels right for you, is safe, and allows you to have the kind of trip you’re dreaming of. We love working with solo female travelers and planning trips like these:

  • Solo escape to Greece - Exploring the ancient history of Athens and having some downtime on the nearby island of Aegina to get away from it all.

  • Two Weeks in Vietnam - Diving into the culture of one of our favorite countries, with local guides that will take you to their favorite places and even welcome you into their own home!

  • Adventure mixed with relaxation in Dominica - We recently planned a week-long trip for a solo traveler to Dominica where she can indulge in everything that the six-star resort Secret Bay has to offer including hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding, and more.
